Framed by rugged cliffs and soft golden sands, the beach is popular for swimming, walking, and fishing, and features natural pools at the river mouth perfect for a safe dip. Gerneous views of the surrounding coast make it ideal for birdwatching and relaxing by the water.

Safety & Lifeguard Information

Gwaing Beach does not have lifeguards on duty. Visitors should exercise caution, especially near the river mouth, due to potential rip currents.

Pet & Dog Policy

  • Dogs are not allowed on the sand since this is a protected area with endanged birdlife.

  • Leashed dogs are permitted on paved beachfront walkways.

Activities

  • Water-based: Swimming, surfing, and exploring the natural pools at Gericke’s Point.

  • Beach-based: Walking, horse riding, and sunbathing.

  • Wildlife & Views: Whale and dolphin watching, birdwatching, and enjoying panoramic coastal views and natural sand cliffs.

Tips & Visitor Advice

  • Gwaing Beach is approximately 15 km from George Central. To reach the beach, drive through Pacaltsdorp, past the police station onto a gravel road, and continue straight until you find the Le Grand Estate turnoff.

  • As a Green Coast Award recipient, Gwaing Beach emphasizes sustainable practices. Please keep the area clean and respect local wildlife.
