Gericke's Piont

What to Know

View Location

Gericke’s Point, also known as Lion Rock, is a striking sandstone headland at the western end of Swartvlei Beach in Sedgefield. Accessible via a 4 km return walk along the beach, the trek is well worth it for the stunning coastal scenery. It is easy enough to do with young children.

The highlight of the area is its magnificent rock pools, large enough to swim in and teeming with marine life such as sea stars, urchins, anemones, and small fish — perfect for tide-pooling, snorkeling, or a refreshing dip at low tide. The surrounding landscape also features some of the highest fossilized sand dunes in South Africa.
