Diaz Beach, named after Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias, is a wide and scenic shoreline just outside Mossel Bay. Its long stretch of soft white sand and rolling dunes make it ideal for family outings, beach walks, and ocean activities. The beach is well-loved for its accessibility, vibrant atmosphere, and nearby attractions like the Diaz Waterpark and beachfront cafés.

Safety & Lifeguard Information

Lifeguards operate during the summer holidays.

  • 1 December - 31 January: 09:00–18:00 

Parking

  • Paid parking is available at the entrance, though spaces can be limited during peak times.

  • Street parking is also available nearby for easy access to the beach.

Pet & Dog Policy

  • Diaz Beach is generally dog-friendly.

  • From 1 December to 31 January (Blue Flag season), dogs are only allowed in the demarcated area between the estuary and Bayview.

  • During this period, permitted dog-walking times are:

    • 05:00 – 08:00

    • 18:00 – 20:00

  • Dogs must always be kept on a leash, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after them.

Activities

  • Water-based: Swimming, surfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, fishing.

  • Beach-based: Walking, sunbathing, beach volleyball, picnicking, family games.

Tips & Visitor Advice

  • This beach can get very busy during season time. Plan on getting there early to secure a good spot.
